Dancing!

Lately, I've been thinking about dancing and just how great it is! For Halloween, I choreographed the Thriller Dance for my students and they (as well as I) had so much fun! For one of our Music Programs coming up, I chorographed a Hanukah Dance and some West African dance moves for Kwanzaa. Dancing is an excellent form of expression and I love it! I especially love how exhilarating African dancing is. It makes me happy :) The other day, I thought of how similar dancing is with singing. You know that rush you feel when you get to the high point of a song while singing in the choir or dancing together; that energy you feel is the same...yet also unique to both. All of this has made me think of that song "Sunscreen" from that Class of '97 Graduation speech. "Enjoy your body, Use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it. It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own... Dance" Isn't it great to have a body?! So many wonderful things we can do with it: Sing, Dance, Run, Hike in beautiful places...and so much more! I know many people (especially us girls) are often critical of our own, but lately I've been grateful for my body and realize what a incredible gift it really is.

Handel's Messiah

Tonight I went to the 1st choir practice for our Community's 74th Annual performance of Handel's Messiah. It felt so good to sing in a choir again! (...even if it was a little painful to feel and hear how vocally out of shape I am) As I sat in EAC's choir room and sang the music to this incredible musical work, I was amazed at the feelings and memories that flooded back to me. I love how music does that! Those days were a huge contribution to who I have become and I caught a glimpse of the person I used to be. Tonight, I enjoyed those memories and feelings which are my very own.
