I got the movie 17 Miracles for Christmas and tonight, we decided to watch it. Wow...that movie is really amazing and if you haven't seen it yet, you are missing out! It is a story about the Handcart Companies and their experiences, trials and miracles throughout that journey. I've always had a huge interest in this history and have researched and read much concerning it. This movie did not disappoint and was very powerful.
I felt inspired tonight in a variety of ways from the story of the Handcart Companies and their:
Faith that moved them onward
Humility (especially when they felt judged and chastened by others)
Love for family and others in the company
Endurance as they would dig deep down for strength to keep going
Gratitude for their blessings and especially their rescue
Most of all, I feel that these miracles were real. Heavenly Father helped them in many ways...and they became acquainted with Him and were aware that He was helping them.
The movie includes a story of Ann Jewel Rowley, who is my ancestor and I loved her miracle...I was surprised, because I'd never heard this story before! We got out the family history and read her own words about how the Lord provided for them to have enough food for the night...just like the story of Christ multiplying the loaves and fishes to make it enough.
I continued to read many other parts of her journal and entries from other ancestors, until finally, I read my Grandmother's Life Story...Emma Ruth Rowley. I enjoyed reading and learning stuff I didn't know. She talked so much about all her children and grandchildren...I'm even in it a little!
Have you ever done something like this before? Just get so carried away in reading journal entries and stories from your family? (Yes, this is what I did on a Friday night...because I'm awesome, haha)
I hardly know how to express all I am feeling right now or even what to make of it. But it feels good and I have loved tonight! You should do it sometime, it's a pretty amazing experience ☺

My Orchestration!
It's been a few years since I graduated from BYU-Idaho, but lately I've been thinking about my experiences there. I remember feeling so proud of my progress in the musical skills I developed as well as discovered.
I was pleased with all I learned and accomplished vocally and also found that I enjoyed learning to play new musical instruments. I discovered how much I love music history and analyzing the unique elements of each musical period and its composers.
But never had I ever imagined I would write music for a full orchestra! I came across a recording of my Orchestration Final of Oh Holy Night. For our Final, our class invited members of the University's Orchestra (whoever was free and willing) to come and play what we wrote. I was impressed! They played our pieces on the spot and did pretty well considering they had never looked at our music before.
Sure, there are some instruments absent, a few early entrances and mistakes...but I love this recording and feel very proud of my Orchestration ☺
I made it into a little video. Listen if you'd like! Merry Christmas!

Twirl Hugs
I'm not too picky when it comes to dating guys...☺But here's a deal breaker:
If I can't picture him giving me twirl hugs, it's a no go.
Twirl hugs are kind of a big deal to me.They say a lot about the kind of guy he is...and I like a personality that goes with twirl hugs.

Safe on My Lips
Something keeps coming to my mind a lot lately...which means I need to do something about it. I've been thinking about Kindness and feel that there is no better time than now to really work on being a kinder person, especially with it being the Holiday Season!
Many years ago, I heard a talk in an LDS General Conference "Your Name is Safe in Our Home" and I knew that I wanted to be that kind of person-that your name would be safe on my lips. I want to be that person again...not only in what I say, but also in what I do and think. One of my favorite quotes comes to mind:
So this Christmas Season (and perhaps I'll make it a New Year's Resolution too) I will:
Take more notice of all the people around me
Be more pleasant and positive while standing in line at the store
Seek to lift others in all that I say
Look for opportunities to serve others, especially in small ways
Smile at strangers
Hold open doors
Be more kind while driving (I admit this is hard to do here... I get angry!)
In general, give people the benefit of the doubt and expect the best in everyone!
Let's see how I do...
May you all have a wonderful and happy Christmas season that is full of Good Will towards all men ☺

“Perhaps the greatest charity comes when we are kind to each other, when we don’t judge or categorize someone else, when we simply give each other the benefit of the doubt or remain quiet. Charity is accepting someone’s differences, weaknesses, and shortcomings; having patience with someone who has let us down; or resisting the impulse to become offended when someone doesn’t handle something the way we might have hoped. Charity is refusing to take advantage of another’s weakness and being willing to forgive someone who has hurt us.
Charity is expecting the best of each other.”~Marvin J. Ashton

Happy Thanksgiving!
This year, Thanksgiving was totally low key with just my parents and I. I loved it! My Mom got out her wedding china, which I don't remember ever using, and it is just gorgeous!
One of my quirks is that I love to take pictures of the things I cook and especially the fancy tables! Today was no exception:
I even made my parents listen to Vivaldi's The Four Seasons as we enjoyed our yummy feast (I admit that I got the idea from watching an NCIS Thanksgiving episode ☺)
My Mom and I baked a delicious apple pie for dessert! Pretty proud of it.
Hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving Day with family and friends!

6 years!
Even though I've moved on with my life ;) there are still some years when I recognize this day as the day that I returned home from my mission!!
It has been six years now, but I often have a memory or thought that brings me back to my days in Connecticut. <insert cliche phrase here> ____ .... it really was one the best and most challenging experiences of my life! In addition to that, (more cliche, but true) I loved the New England area. There is so much diversity, I felt as though I served in tons of countries! I loved teaching and making new friends from Ghana, Korea, India, Estonia, Brazil (and many more that I can't remember now) while also geting to know and love them and their cultures.
Say what you will, New Englanders may be gruff on the outside compared to us Westerners, but once you are "in" with them, they are deeply loyal and dedicated...and in some ways, even more considerate drivers!
It was so beautiful there, I couldn't stop myself from taking pictures of the gorgeous scenery I'd always see going down those streets:
and yes...I even did this...
Oh, there are plenty more where those came from! What can I say...I love New England! It was a privilege serving a mission there, I cannot even begin to describe how much it has changed me. There were many life lessons learned that I still apply to my life even today:

- Do it anyway, regardless of possible negative outcomes
- Charity is expecting the best of eachother
- Lose yourself in the moment, some opportunites come only once
- Some days, the only thing you feel you accomplish is simply showing that you are out there working and ready for when the right situation does arise.

How Many Roommates??
I've been thinking about all the places I’ve lived and roommates I’ve had…and I was surprised at what I’ve accumulated over this last decade:
Howard’s Trailer Park (“Paradise Villa”) – 7 total roommates for both Trailer #5 and #12
Now that was a great place to live back in those long past EAC days! It was like its own little neighborhood community. We knew everyone in all the trailers, due to "Trailer Hopping" and all were invited to the parties. Looking back, I can’t believe how many people we’d always cram into our front rooms to play games, watch movies or just hang out.

Goodman’s Apartment #2 – add 3 more roommates
There were only a couple apartments and small houses filled that summer, so we all became good friends and did everything together. Goodman’s and the Institute were the places to go if there was any fun to be had. We’d all hang out in the big parking lot, or our apartment or go sit up on the roof and star gaze and laugh and talk.

The Town House – add 3 more roommates to the mix (with 2 repeats)
This huge old house on the highway had a big window in the front for all to see the craziness going on inside. We loved to play the card game “Scum” and continue to cram as many people we could in the (now bigger) front room for parties, dances, and movies…and always got in trouble with our neighbors because of too many cars parked out front.

Mission Companions in the MTC and Connecticut – 6
Of course I’m going to add my mission companions! We spent 24/7 with each other as we worked and taught. I learned many things about life, myself and others that I couldn't have learned otherwise. I have great memories with each of them.

Baronnessa Apartment D8 (Date…get it! Haha) – 17 total…geeze!
Throughout my two years at BYU-Idaho, I lived in the same apartment. I loved it (not just because of the name). There was always 6 of us (typical of BYU-I housing). Crazy, but we did it and each semester we all became great friends. We’d even take roommate pictures together! In warm weather, we liked to buy cheap couches to put outside on our porch…which of course looked trashy and we’d get in trouble.
Burger House (no idea why it was called that) – 2 (plus one repeat)
A college roommate convinced me to move to Jackson Hole for a semester and work with her…which was an adventure for both of us! For a bit, we had the HUGE house to ourselves, but then added 2 girls that moved to the U.S. (from Kazakhstan and Brazil) to work with us...this wasn’t my first experience, since I had a roommate from China at BYU-I. But it’s still worth noting for someone like me with my small town background.

Love Shack #6 – 2 (plus the same repeat)
Most who worked for the Jackson Trading Company lived in the Love Shack employee housing. It was like an instant social group and family and I enjoyed it. Whenever we had a day off, we’d invite anyone else who was also off and go for a hike, bike ride or go on some adventure in this outdoorsy tourist town.
The Aspens – 2
This condo outside of Jackson was in a sweet area: close to Teton Village (Ski Resort) and an entrance into Grand Teton National Park. It was fun driving through the park in the evenings to see the elk. We also had a neighborhood moose and lawn chairs for furniture!

After moving back to Arizona (and having a nice break from roommates) I now live in the sunny city! I feel as though I’ve come full circle, since both roommates are old friends from EAC days. Here's to more good times!
GRAND TOTAL # OF ROOMATES….43!! (not even counting the repeat roommates!) Shocking isn’t it? Awesome roommates are hard to come by and I feel lucky to have had these experiences.

American as Apple Pie
Did you know it's National Apple Month? Yet another reason why I love October ☺ How will you celebrate? I recently played one of my favorite games Apples to Apples with my brother's family as we dipped sliced apples. I love to throw Apple Parties, like this one with my college roommates:
Have fun folks! Go bake a pie or get some gooey caramel and have a party!

City Lights
I recently moved to the Phoenix area and a couple nights ago, I was driving from the east side to the west side to visit family. While on this drive, I was reminded of one of my favorite things:
I love seeing these city lights! No, I didn't take this picture...are you crazy? I was driving on the I-10 when I saw this gorgeous sight! It was even more beautiful in real life. It made me happy ☺
Another favorite is the lights at Tempe Town Lakes, especially driving over it all on the 202 Highway. I don't have a picture to do that one justice, so take a drive sometime to see what I'm talking about! Try to keep your eyes on the road, though ;)

Eye of the Tiger
I've had some awesome trips driving in my car, listening to my music. But I think I have to ban The Eye of the Tiger. It keeps getting me into trouble!
Its first betrayal happened on a rainy, spring afternoon. I was on my way to Wyoming, jamming out to this song when I missed an important exit that kept me on the Interstate. I realized after awhile that I was heading towards Boise Idaho, but was already too far gone. I had to wait until I reached another highway that eventually lead me back to the Interstate. The Eye of the Tiger cost me at least an hour of driving on those dull Idaho roads that lead to practically nowhere.
A year later, my roommate and I were heading back to Jackson after a fun night at the Playmill Theater in West Yellowstone. The Eye of the Tiger came on and I remembered story #1...and so I shared it with my roommate. I was so into the song and story, I missed another important turn! Once again, I ended up on some random Idaho road heading who-even-knows-where. This one had pretty scenery at least, since it was in a mountain setting. I turned around (on that very narrow mountain road) when we realized we were lost and eventually made it to back to Jackson.
I was on another road trip last weekend and The Eye of the Tiger came up on my playlist. I didn't even realize how much I picked up speed...until I saw the police car parked on the side of the mountain road. You know the drill. That song cost me a speeding ticket!
Due to a series of unfortunate circumstances, I have decided to ban The Eye of the Tiger from my playlist in the car. Because we all know that song caused all those outcomes, not my amazing driving skills ;) We'll see how it goes...

Bloggity Birthday!
One year ago today, I started this blog! Looking through my posts over the year, I thought it would be fun to see what my the 3 most viewed posts were. So to celebrate, here they are!
#1 - Facebook Fued
#2 - To: The New York Times From: Another Single Female Mormon
#3 - To the Single Folk
I vowed I would never join this blog bandwagon...it just wasn't my thing. But a year ago, I saw its value for me. Many of you know I'm always musing about something. Some people ask me what I am thinking about when they see that I'm in a deep thought. Some even poke fun and call it "Going off to Wendy World" ☺
Sometimes I have a need to share what's on my mind and the little life discoveries I've made, or just sort things out by writing. This blog fills that need and it's been fun! More of my musings to come!

Where Were You?
This morning I watched the 9/11 Memorial in New York, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA. I heard names read, stories of bravery retold and various moments of silence for times beginning when the first plane hit, to when each tower fell. Many things touched me: Two diferent performances of Amazing Grace, a story of fellow students staying with and comforting children of parents involved, and honoring brave people who selflessly gave their lives to save others: Firefighters, Rescue Teams and the people on Flight 93.
We always recall where we were on that day and what we remember.
I remember my mom waking me up for family prayer, which we always did before my younger sister went to school. When I came in the room, they were watching the news and I was told a 2nd plane crashed into the World Trade Center. Our Nation was under attack. It seemed so unreal, like something you see in the movies.
I was going to college at EAC and I remember that everything seemed to stop on campus. In choir that day, I remember feelings felt as we sang these words:
Lo yisa goy el goy cherev
Lo yil'medu od milchamah
The Hebrew words translate the scripture about turning swords into plowshares and nations shall learn war no more. I read it a few days ago and remembered that song. I always do, even 10 years later.
I remember being on the student council and us working together for a Candelight Vigil on campus for that night. A few weeks later, we did a blood drive on campus and I remember being impressed with how many people showed up do give blood.
Looking back now, I feel I should've spent more time with my family that day rather than being so caught up in my college life.
Yes, we all remember September 11th. How could we forget? Where were you?

Favorite Fall Things
I'm always anxiously anticipating each season when it begins. At the time, it feels as if that particular season is my favorite. But I'm pretty sure that I love FALL the most ☺ Can you blame me when I see this?
And get to do this!
I love how people decorate with potted Mums and straw
We kicked off the fall season here in Arizona by going to Apple Annie's Orchard on Labor Day. I love this place! We got apple bread, kettle corn, apple cider, and their homemade apple ice-cream (which was more amazing than I thought it would be!) And picked apples and pears:

The Book Biz
I recently went shopping at a huge bookstore chain that was having a close out sale. Even though I was so excited about the discount prices on books I'd been wanting to purchase, I also felt a little sad about the whole thing. And I couldn't help but think of some of those wistful scenes from a favorite movie, You've Got Mail. Except in this case, the "big bad bookstore chain" that sells cheap books and legal addictive stimulants is the one going under by the new world of electronic books.
Don't get me wrong, I love my I-Books App. The classics are free, I can read in the dark, look up words, highlight and copy quotes with just a tap of my finger along with many other cool features. I'm not going to give up I-Books, nor do I think this is "the end of civilization as we know it". But I still felt a little sentiment toward the good old fashioned book that you can hold in your hand, smell, flip through and loan out to friends. That's one of the fun parts: The whole book culture of loaning out and borrowing from friends.
I know this culture isn't completely outdated...but on that day, walking around this prominent bookstore, I felt a little tinge of that empty sadness about its closing. I was happy to buy three new books and I do enjoy reading them the old school way...and I only slightly miss the electronic features ;)

I Solemnly Swear
...that the last ten years, we've all been up to no good! And it's been a great ten years. Of Harry Potter☺ So what if I'm a little late in my HP thoughts? Like a month late. I just have to say that the last book was my favorite and so was this last film. Both for the same reasons:
I love the bravery everyone shows! It is phenomenal, actually. And inspiring. They knew what they stood for and fully committed to it. So they stepped up and fought with much courage, no matter the outcome. For me, that was a kick in the pants and wake up call.
Here are some friends and I after my 3rd time...I still can't get enough of it!

Walk Away
One year ago today, a miracle happened.
I remember it being my happiest day of that year!
On that day, I got a job offer doing what I love, two states away where people that I love were. That day was a new beginning for me. A week later, I walked away from a variety of situations that brought/kept me down.

I am thinking of that day today...
I don't think I'll ever forget it and will always be grateful.
I don't think I'll ever forget it and will always be grateful.
There comes a time in life when you walk away from all the drama,
And people who create it.
And people who create it.
You surround yourself with people who:
Make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good.
Make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good.
So, love the people who treat you right and forget the ones who don't.
Life is too short to be anything but happy.
Falling down is part of life. Getting back up is living
This quote showed up shortly after and I related to it. Here's to new beginnings!

Buon Cibo
This is Italian for "good food", which is definitely how I feel about pizza! And I love making it even more! For about 4 years, I worked at a pizza restaurant in Pima, AZ. I really loved those pizza making days, my co-workers, employers and being a pizza delivery girl. Even though it has been years since I've worked there and the restaurant is now gone, I still enjoy making pizza from time to time. It became like an art to me. A part of me comes back to life when I shape/press the dough and create the pizza with its toppings. That was me tonight. For dinner, I had a good time making BBQ Chicken Pizza and Breadsticks. Here is my masterpiece:
Of course I can't blog about cooking food without including a recipe, so here is one I've been using lately:
Dough
Combine 3 cups of lukewarm water, 4 TBS of sugar, 2 TBS honey and 2 TBS of yeast and let it sit for about 10 minutes, or until yeast is ready.
Add 7 cups (more or less as needed) of flour and 1 tsp of salt gradually while kneading dough (by hand or in a mixer) until dough is at the desired consistency (not sticky or too dense/hard).
Divide dough in half and shape into 2 dough balls (one for pizza and one for breadsticks)
Let them sit for about 5 minutes (I like to spray them with cooking oil so they don't dry out)
Then place a dough ball on a pizza pan and hand press/stretch dough until it is evenly flattened across the pan
Pizza
Let the dough rise for about 20-30 minutes (depending on the temperature of the room)
Top evenly with sauce, cheese and other toppings as desired
I added bbq sauce to the pizza sauce, cheese, shredded cooked chicken, pineapple and sweet onions.
Bake at 425 degrees for about 15-18 minutes
Breadsticks
Cut dough into strips (I like to twist them) and place on a pan
Let them rise for about 10-20 minutes (depending on room temp)
Lightly brush on melted butter (I add garlic salt and parsley flakes to it)
Bake at 425 degrees for about 8-10 minutes
Take out, lightly butter again and sprinkle on Parmesan cheese
And....Voila! That is my delicious pizza and breadsticks dinner ☺

Always Up For a Good Meadow
You mostly likely know that I have always DREAMED of going to a Meadow wearing what I would call a Meadow Running Dress. Last month, during my visit to Jackson Hole...that dream was finally fulfilled!
Let's be honest. This is just the beginning. There will be PLENTY more Meadows and Meadow Running Dresses to come. Simply put, I am happy there☺ Seriously though, can it get any better than this?

Beach Cruising
Isn't this great? The salty sea air, the wind blowing in your face.
Perfect day to be at sea!
This quote from The Little Mermaid came to my mind while Beach Cruising on the San Diego Bay. It is a new love of mine! For those who don't know (because I didn't), it is pretty much a bike ride on the coast. They even have bikes specifically for Beach Cruising. This is us with our bikes:

National Ice Cream Month!!
Why yes, of course I am going to blog about my favorite time of the year! July is National Ice Cream Month and I sure do love to celebrate ☺ Yesterday some friends and I went to an ice cream shop in Scottsdale, AZ called Sweet Republic. I saw on the news that it recently ranked #2 in the nation, so I figured we ought to check it out. The verdict? The ice cream was amazing and they even had board games that you could play while you were there! So if you're looking for a fun place to go to celebrate National Ice Cream Month, I highly recommend it. I prefer ice-cream that isn't too creamy or rich, so I thought it was perfect.
While I'm on the topic, I must also mention my other favorite: Farr's Ice Cream You can find it in Eastern Idaho, parts of Utah and who knows where else. I love the texture and yes, I also love that it is not too creamy. There's a cool little shop in a small Idaho town, Swan Valley that serves it with a square ice-cream scooper! I frequently enjoyed visits there.
Anyway, have fun this month! Make homemade ice cream, or go to an ice-cream shop, or buy your favorite gallon and invite friends and family over for a party! The 17th of this month is National Ice Cream Day, so you can guess what I'll be doing ☺
Here's a pic to get you in the mood...Enjoy!

4th of Joo-Ly!!
And this morning...the town still wakes us up at dawn blaring their sirens. As you can see, my family still rides on the fire trucks for the parade:
After the parade, we always go to a field for a Flag Raising Ceremony, watermelon and getting hosed down by the fire trucks! Good times ☺
I love this holiday! Not just because it is so much fun, but I also love that we all unite across the nation to celebrate our love for our Country, the men and women who serve, the Flag and the Constitution. Happy Independence Day!

To the Single Folk
One recent night, a couple friends and I were sitting in a movie theater watching the credits roll and just chatting. Our conversation shifted to the topic of dating and some frustrations (The Lord of the Rings had long credits).
Finally, I bursted out, "Our culture doesn't date right!"
My outburst statement was me just being silly and over the top in a funny way...but also true.
Before I divulge my thoughts... a few *Disclamers*
* My background and dating experiences are very unique, making my motives in dating different from most girls. So I do not speak for all single girls/guys, just like I wouldn't want any of them speaking for me.
* Some of this is not original, just tried and true for me and others.
♀ (For girls) Don't bake guys cookies, invite them to amazing cooked dinners, decorate their cars, go visit them, give them advice, etc, etc, etc....etc.. (whew!) We DO too much. I hate to see girls do all of this. Do you feel men are being passive about dating? Maybe we've made them that way. I feel uncomfortable doing so much of the work. It goes against my feminine nature in dating. And really, we just don't have to.
Why? I've learned from guys that while they may like and appreciate it, ultimately...that is not the way to a man's heart. He would rather give to YOU. He creates affection for you by SERVING YOU. So release your nurturing and giving energy on other people and places.
♀ Continuing... It doesn't matter how intelligent or witty you are. Or if you are kind to others and spiritual. That you are amazingly talented and successful. Even that you are attractive. Yes, guys want all that, but they need to give affection, to feel appreciated. So ladies: Accept the kind things guys do for you and express appreciation. Rather than do and serve and nurture--let him give to you, serve you, advise you, comfort you. Simply accept and appreciate. It's effortless, really. Also, you are not appearing weak when you do this.
♀♂ (For Both, but mostly Ladies) Don't try to prove or convince someone that you are worthy of their affections and fancies. You already are. Stop doing and just BE your amazing self. Focus on expressing yourself through your talents and passions. Enjoy things that make you feel good and happy. Increase your abilities and confidence. Immerse yourself in what you love about life. You'll become attractive to one who meets your compatibility.
♀♂ Let yourself date around! Don't focus on just one guy/girl. I like it when I can keep my options open much more than obsessing over one guy. Plus it really helps ease the pressure we all feel in dating on both ends. You also appear less needy, clingy and more attractive.
♂♀ Use every opportunity to flirt a little. When you're walking down the sidewalk and you pass a guy/girl, smile and maybe say hello. It only lasts 2 seconds, but it'll make you feel good (the other person too!) and boost your confidence. Do it all the time, everywhere! You'll probably never see them again anyway (which can be perfect). Do it in the grocery store, with your waiter, with acquaintances and friends. I find it comes so naturally that I just can't help myself sometimes ;) It always feels great and increases your ability to flirt and interact.
♂♀ Dates aren't a big deal. They are simply an opportunity to commit a couple hours of your time to one person for fun, positivity, and getting to know each other and ...sometimes a little more. I like many people and find them to be very interesting. This has resulted in many awesome dating experiences.
♂♀ Dating one person doesn't mean you want to get married to that person! It's just the next step that leads to other steps...but only if you want to and feel comfortable taking the next step :) Enjoy it and see where it leads. Marriage is still several steps away!
♂ Men, initiate and take the lead. This shows confidence and that is very attractive. In our culture, many guys would ask me out for a couple dates and then put the ball in my court (as a test to see if I was truly interested). I didn't like it. But when guys continued to ask me out and take the lead, I still loved it! I don't feel like I led anyone on either. This only works when the girl is honest.
♀ (Ladies mostly) Be honest in your feelings and actions. If you are interested in someone, don't act like you aren't--or the other way around. As a relationship progresses and something bothers you, then express how you feel. Don't say everything is okay, but act like it isn't or even pretend everything is okay. We pretend too much. I've learned that's how drama is created. I've seen amazing things happen when I effectively express my feelings. It certainly makes you more vulnerable, but that is good and even thrilling.
That's all! Life changing right? ;) Truthfully, some have been for me. You may already know some of this, agree with it and do it. Honestly, this post was just a boost/reminder for me. You may disagree or disagree. You are free to share your thoughts!

Meant to Be?
Most of the time, I do not believe in "meant to be". In making decisions, I feel most choices are left up to us to use our best judgement. I believe there is no right or wrong choice, just YOUR choice. Then you decide to be happy with whatever you choose because you trust your intuition. For all of such decisions, I have been so pleased and happy with what has come of them and wouldn't change a thing.
But there have been three instances in my life when I felt very specifically that I was to do something. That it was "meant to be" and something else had orchestrated it. Those came as a surprise and practically fell into my lap. In such circumstances, they have been opposite what I had chosen to do...even seemed a mistake in my eyes and I am sure many others. But I did it anyway, trusting that it was right. In all three situations, I have always been amazed at how perfectly it panned out!
Here I am again, trying to make decisions. Is it my choice? Do I just decide and then be happy with what comes after? Or is there something else that is meant to be? I am in the middle of the ride at the moment...but I suppose time will tell. To quote a favorite movie: Tonight, I am just sending this question out into the cosmic void. "So goodnight, Dear Void".

Hidden in the Hills
Some friends and I took on an adventure exploring a ghost town called Jerome. It is an old copper mining town near Cottonwood, AZ that is now a place for tourists. I had a good time! We checked out an old mining area, freaked out about how deep the shaft went (1900 ft!) and took crazy pictures.
We went into town to check out shops all up the streets on a hill. I really loved the Jerome Artists Cooperative Gallery. All the different styles of art, bright colors and lighting created a great ambiance for me. It's on my list of favorite art galleries.
There were other cool shops, Magpie (cute clothes & jewelry) and a candy shop. We also heard a live rock band playing in a restaurant/bar, pretty cool!
Who knew this place even existed? It's like a secret place hidden in the hills, but worth checking out.

Gibbs' Rules
I am into the T.V. show N.C.I.S. One thing we fans are fascinated with is the Team Leader, Special Agent Jethro Gibbs and his set of rules. There is a total of 51, though we do not know what all of them are yet...which of course makes them so intriguing. Gibbs writes each one down on a random piece of scratch paper and keeps his collection in a special little box at home. Here are some of my favorites:
Funny ~ #22 Never, ever bother Gibbs in interrogation and #23 Never mess with a Marine's coffee if you want to live. #7 Always be specific when you lie. #12 Never date a co-worker
Other favorites ~ #3 Don't believe what you're told, double check. #11 When the job is done, walk away #35 Always watch the watchers #39 There is no such thing as a coincidence #6 Never apologize, it is a sign of weakness
Then the 40's are for Emergency use only, such as #40 If it seems someone is out to get you, they are.
I think about how we all have our own codes of conduct and how we value them. And how sometimes we allow ourselves to break one. In a newer episode, we witness Gibbs add a new rule to his collection:
Ever had a time in your life when you realized one of your rules might not always be correct? We all know it takes a lot of courage to admit that.
Another reason why I love N.C.I.S. is because of the camaraderie and sense of "family" within the team. Like in this scene with Abby, the forensic scientist and an Agent Tony DiNozzo: Typical Abby You can see why I love it, enjoy!

True Blue Through and Through
...Except for my eyes. Contrary to popular belief, my eyes are actually green. I love my green eyes, they are quite stunning if I do say so myself...but anyway, that's not what my post is about ;)You know those color personality tests? I took one as part of a college assignment (one that was legit) and my color was Blue. One of the characteristics listed about Blue Personalities was that we greatly value being understood. So True! Mostly because I march to the beat of my own drum and often feel misunderstood. So I live for opportunities to express myself. It was a motivating factor to start this Blog back in the fall.
Another motivation has to do with a line from favorite quote of mine:
As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” –Marianne Williamson
That is also part of my Blueness: I want to be an open book if it means I can benefit someone else. Now allow me a little twist to also say that as I let others see my darkness, I give them permission to do the same. What do I mean by this? On occasion, we may feel the need to keep up "appearances" and be "perfect". I think many problems have arised because of this. One of the most amazing opportunites we have been given is to work towards perfection in a variety of ways...but I wonder if we take it a little too far and miss the real point. We choose to bottle things up, not do or say something that would otherwise be so beneficial even vital simply because we are afraid of how we will appear to others. So I may, at times, share my "dark side" because that is also part of the real me. I feel liberated by letting others see it and hope it will lift a burden of another. Another quality trait of a Blue: We like to be Real and appreciate it when others are the same.
A while back, I read a Post that expresses well my feelings on this topic. The Disease Called Perfection "Be bold about your weaknesses and you will change people's lives. Be honest about who you actually are, and others will begin to be their actual selves around you."That is also part of my Blueness: I want to be an open book if it means I can benefit someone else. Now allow me a little twist to also say that as I let others see my darkness, I give them permission to do the same. What do I mean by this? Mere Reflections
This last week of school is so fun…and at the same time a little depressing. I took down some classroom posters, banners, pics and stuff from the walls and bulletin boards today. And a few memories and emotions flooded back to me:
The Sunday night I first put up those classroom decorations…so excited to have my first classroom! (Also way cool that it was my 1st Grade classroom when I was a student). I was so nervous and excited putting up those decorations! It all happened so fast, it was only my 2nd day back in Thatcher after living in Wyoming for quite a while. I had no idea what to expect of the next day…and next many months. I couldn’t believe I was going to be teaching Music to over 400 students! It was overwhelming and I felt nervous about the HUGE shoes I was about to fill.
Then I remembered 2 more memories putting up other classroom decorations. In October, I put up Halloween posters and jokes and realized how much I enjoyed this job and that I was starting to finally feel more at ease. The other memory was the beginning of February listening to my I-Pod and putting up Valentine Decorations. I was having a ball and won't forget my feelings and thoughts of that afternoon…
For Music Classes this week, the students have been choosing their favorite songs. We’ve been having fun taking a trip through some of our favorite musical moments of the school year. Practically every class has asked to do the Halloween “Zombie Dance” one more time (aka Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”). It’s only Day 2 of this week, but safe to say that I am officially sick of the Macarena and Cotton-Eyed-Joe! But not the Virginian Reel…dancing to Pa’s Fiddle Band playing Irish Washerwoman is still happiness right there☺
As we sing a Christmas Program song “Believe” from Polar Express in our 3rd Grade classes, I love to watch their faces as I see them thinking, feeling and remembering. That song still moves me…and gives me goose bumps! So does the D.A.R.E Song, which is weird to say because we’re totally rocking out when we sing it. There’s just something in the choreography, melody and lyrics of “and prove I can be Drug Free!” while holding up our Strong Man Arms that still just gives me the chills!
Each class has really enjoyed singing songs from their grade’s musical. I noticed that I bonded a little extra with each grade as we worked to put together their own musical program. It's been good to feel again the unique connection with each class. Yesterday with 1st Grade’s Disney Celebration. Today with 2nd Grade’s Seussical Jr. Tomorrow, Kindergarten might choose to sing some of their Valentine songs.
The rest of this week is sure to bring back more awesome memories!

HOO Knows Where It Went?
In the middle of some random nights these past several months, I have woken up to hear an Owl hooting outside my window. It always made me so happy to hear! But I realize that I haven't heard my Owl lately. Probably because the trees outside my window have recently been cut down or trimmed and I suppose it has nowhere to perch now. I miss it :( So if any of you hear my Owl, send it back my way. I'd like that. I have, however, bought me an owl necklace in honor of my lost friend. So that makes me feel a bit better☺

Good Reads
On a recent hike, my sis-in-law and I were talking about our favorite toys and books as kids. It's weird, but I couldn't think of any toys that I would say have real sentimental value to me.
But two books came to mind:

But two books came to mind:

Tonight, I got out these books and it was so much fun reading them! Crazy how much I still remember as I read the words again. I added these to my bookshelf. They belong among some of the best books I've ever read.

Best Job Ever!!
I find myself using this phrase a lot when people ask me how I like my job. Today was our last music program and it was a great ending to the year! It's been a privilege teaching music to these students and I've felt so much support from teachers, parents, district and community. I'm close to the end of my first year teaching music and I can see how much I've grown. Although I really had to adapt to teaching and putting on programs for young students, this job really fits me perfectly. I danced around the idea of such a career for a while, but after this experience I finally feel committed to teaching music. It combines two of my passions: Teaching and Music. Both always challenge me and continuously provide opportunites for progression. It's been rewarding to see these students grow in their skills and love for music and performing. I love what I do...it really is the Best Job EVER!

Life vs. Death & Mixed feelings
Last night, I felt a sense of Patriotism and Unity. It would've been to fun join the party and wave an American Flag! At the same time, I felt weird about it.
A Tolkien quote came to mind during all this:
Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.
Life is a very sacred thing to me. I hate death. Lifeless bodies, even of animals have this effect on me. I'm Pro Life! In every sense of the phrase, haha! I often avoid killing bugs and sometimes aplogize to them when I do...except not so much for cockroaches, because I HATE them!!
Silly, but you get my point.
I've been seeing this quote on Facebook today and it got me thinking again:"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy...
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
A Tolkien quote came to mind during all this:
Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. For even the very wise cannot see all ends.
On an opposite side of the spectrum, this other quote followed my thoughts:
It is better that one man should perish than that a nation should dwindle and perish in unbelief.
I've been seeing this quote on Facebook today and it got me thinking again:
Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."
I don't feel hate was the motivating factor rather than justice, even though there is hate in many hearts. I struggle with rejoicing in someone's death. Even Bin Laden's. Yet, I felt a bit of rejoicing.
So I have mixed feelings. I will just leave those feelings...Mixed.

Fairy Tale
I know what some of you are thinking...Really Wendy? You're blogging about the Royal Wedding? Lame. A few days ago, I would've had similar thoughts. I'm not too interested in celebrities' lives, and felt people were ridiculous in making a big deal about some Prince William guy getting married to a girl named Kate. I'd block out the conversations or media with disinterest.
So when I chose to watch the wedding coverage last night, I was pretty clueless...but then suddenly became fascinated about everything! The hats won me over first. I loved seeing the ladies in all their unique, stylish hats! Because really, who wears hats these days? Apparently it's Tradition and I loved seeing it. Then Prince William and his brother, Harry drive up wearing their uniforms and suddenly it becomes a Fairy Tale! It was so endearing to see how much the people love those two brothers. Then the Queen arrives (in her hat!) and as she enters the Westminster Abby, the Trumpets sound. So majestic! Kate makes her way to the Abby in the one of the most beautiful wedding gowns I've ever seen. She presented herself with the poise of a Princess with elegance and grace--and yet she was not Royalty. After the ceremony, they drive off in a horse drawn carriage and I loved seeing the crowd cheer them on.
I felt like I was watching an important event in the history of the world...and it very well may be. The beginning of a new era in their Monarchy, and it looks like it'll be a good one. Maybe Camelot? haha ;)
I enjoyed watching this couple. There's a warmth and love there. In my observation, they seem mature and committed to a successful and happy marriage together.

He Is Not Here
Some of the greatest words ever spoken:
"Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen"
~ Luke 24:5-6
Some of the happiest words I've sang:
"He is risen! He is risen! Tell it out with joyful voice. He has burst his three days' prison; Let the whole wide earth rejoice. Death is conquered, man is free. Christ has won the victory." ~ LDS Hymn 199
Some of the most liberating and hopeful words I've read:
"And thus God breaketh the bands of death, having gained the victory over death; giving the Son power to make intercession for the children of men....
"But there is a resurrection, therefore the grave hath no victory and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ." ~ Mosiah 15 & 16:8
The most amazing miracle of all happened that first Easter morning. This day awakens my deepest, most hopeful, thankful and happiest of feelings.
It's kind of a big deal to me...so therefore my favorite holiday! Happy Easter!

Mountains are Calling...
...and I must GO! I love the mountains and I also love hiking there. I think it'd be fun to blog about the hikes I go on. To kick off the hiking season, I will share some of my favorites from the last two summers in Jackson Hole, WY.Taggart Lake
My favorite hike in the Grand Teton National Park! It's a pretty easy 1.3 mile hike to the lake. Along the way, we always like to climb this rock and take pictures of us looking all majestic ☺ It's also fun to chill on a big rock by the lake when you get there.Though I love to go during the day to see all the wildflowers and the Tetons, my favorite is to go at night. I love the stars in the night sky, especially when the trail opens up to a meadow. The lake at night is gorgeous too.
Snow King
A Ski Hill in the heart of the town of Jackson, 2 miles, steep switch backs up the whole way. This one kicks my butt. My calves burn, legs turn to jello, and I tend to get cranky because I hate feeling like a pansy! Going during the day is fun because you can take the ski lift down. It's so steep and kind of a rush!
I also love climbing Snow King at night because occasionally the trail overlooks the town lights. When I get to the top, I feel like I've conquered the King! I get a beautiful view of everything below, too. My favorite is when the county fair was going on below and you could see all the rides, etc and really hear the music from Pat Green's Concert. Cool memoryl!

The longest hike I've ever done was a 13 mile trail that goes around Emma Matilda/Two Ocean Lakes. After climbing up a steep, one mile hill...you get this view. So worth it.
Another view at the top looking the other way at Mt. Moran and Jackson Lake. We hung out up there and visited with fellow hikers we met along the way, which I also love to do.There were more hikes and pictures, but I'll stop now before I get too carried away ;) I'm excited to add more hiking adventures!
